New Reception Parents: September 2020

July 2020:

I wrote to you in June explaining how things will be a little different this year due to the ongoing national health crisis. I am delighted to be able to update you with further details and some dates for your diaries. Thank you for your understanding and patience at this time.

Due to the need to maintain small group sizes and social distancing, we have decided to split the transition events in two this year. Your child will be allocated to either GROUP A or GROUP B with slightly different dates and times for each group. We will contact you when we have arranged children into either Group A or Group B.

Starting School Full-time

All children come to school full-time from their first day with us. To help children settle, we start younger children first in a small group and gradually grow the class over a few days until all children have started. Children born in May, June, July or August (‘Summer-born’ children) will start school full-time on Monday 14th September 2020. Children born in January, February, March or April (‘Spring-born’ children) will start school on Wednesday 16th September 2020. Children born in September, October, November or December (‘Autumn-born children) will start school full-time on Friday 18th September 2020.

‘Stay & Play’, ‘Meet & Greet’

Each year we welcome parents and carers to come and meet the teachers and find out more about the school day at Moulsecoomb during our ‘Meet & Greet’ session. We also love you to ask any questions or share any information that you would like us to know. At the same time, your child will have the opportunity to ‘Stay & Play’ in the additional Reception class space. This will be a chance for them to become comfortable with their classroom and generally have a lovely time! Parents and children in Group A will get his opportunity on Thursday 10th September 2020 at 9 am for an hour; parents and children in Group B will get the opportunity on Friday 11th September 2020 at 9 am.

Teddy Bears Picnics

Unfortunately, we will not be able to visit children at home this year. We will instead offer sessions to see children safely at school. We would like to have a safe and socially distanced Teddy Bears picnic in our fantastic outdoor space. This would allow us to get to know each other in a safe way. GROUP A will have their picnic in our Early Years Meadow on Wednesday 9th September at 9 am; GROUP B will have their picnic on the same day at 2 pm.

In the meantime, a reminder of our lovely video where you will meet staff, including your child’s teacher Mr Rob Breese, and have a virtual tour of our incredible early years environment (https://www.moulsecoomb.brighton-hove.sch.uk/courses-and-activities-for-parents/new-reception-parents#). June 2020:

Hello parents and carers!

We are very excited to be welcoming your child to our Reception class in September. We are going to do things differently this year and this section will let you know about our plans. We will share dates as soon as we can dependent on government advice regarding the current health crisis.

 Welcome Meetings

Each year we welcome parents and carers to come and meet the teachers and find out more about the school day at Moulsecoomb. We also love you to ask any questions or share any information that you would like us to know. We hope to do this in September and will be in touch with dates as soon as we have them.

 Home Visits

Unfortunately, we will not be able to visit children at home this year. We will instead offer sessions to see children safely at school. We would like to have a safe and socially distanced Teddy Bears picnic in our fantastic outdoor space. This would allow us to get to know each other in a safe way. I will add dates for this event as soon as I can.
